The Evening Lands
Turmoil has returned to the realm of the Immortals.
For more than a millennium, the mortal races of Tethra lived, fought, loved, conquered, killed, created, and survived without the influence of the gods. In truth, the Immortals were not as interested in the minutia of creation as many mortals believed. They grew bored with being universally worshipped, tired of the commonplace miracles performed by clerics, and apathetic toward the tedious repetition of life. And so they retreated into their domains to seek respite from their crushing boredom. Although the Immortals placed Tethra among their highest achievements, they had grown aloof, and unsympathethic to the plight of small folk beyond a passive interest in their entertainment value. Still, mortals tend to appraise their own value somewhat higher than they should, and most of them consider the influence and favor of patron Immortals in their decisions. Devout followers continued to worship in their absence, and even those who placed ancestors, spirits, nature, and false gods in higher esteem acknowledged their existence.
And so the Immortals remained distant, until one of them was killed…
